The Grand Opening of the Museum!
September 11th, 2010 marked a historic date in the history of the museum as over 250 people gathered to celebrate the Grand Opening! Special guests included New Bedford Mayor Scott Lang who commemorated the evening by starting our parlor fountain.
Attendees were delighted when the fountain, which dates to around 1880, performed much as it must have a century ago, seemingly defying gravity to shoot a thin stream of water some 10 inches into the air. The wine was also flowing that evening, and in between speeches guests were able to enjoy refreshments and live music. In addition to the permanent museum gallery were two special exhibits. "Atomic Green Vaseline: Uranium Glass in Everyday Life" and  "Contemporary Glass Paperweights: the Shimmelpfeng Gift" curated by Angela D. Curry and Jacob William Hoss.
Mayor Scott Lang commemorates the Museum's opening by starting a Victorian table fountain dating to late 1800's.
